Sylvester Roper dies in a crash on his steam-powered bicycle.

The Roxbury resident and inventor crashes and dies after driving a few laps around the unofficial racetracks to demonstrate the vehicle he had built, which could reach speeds of up to 40 miles per hour. The cause of his death was later determined to have been a heart attack.
